I can remember quite well the day when I was standing in front of a glass wall in the zoo of Z\u00fcrich observing a golden lion tamarin sitting on a tree trunk and looking into my direction. Sometimes it was calling.<\/p>\n

I immediately thought of the chapter about golden lion tamarins in the book from Jane Goodall \u201cHope for Animals and Their World \u2013 How Endangered Species Are Being Rescued from the Brink\u201d. In this book Jane Goodall shares stories about animals, that almost disappeared from our earth. The California Condor (Gymnogyps californianus<\/em>), the Northern bald ibis (Geronticus eremita<\/em>) or the Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus<\/em>) were one of these animals.<\/p>\n

But also golden lion tamarins (Leontopithecus rosalia<\/em>).<\/p>\n

When I was standing in front of this glass wall I never would have thought of being able to see these monkeys in their natural environment in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil.<\/p>\n

I could realize my encounter with the golden lion tamarins thanks to the Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Mico-Le\u00e3o-Dourado<\/a> in the Reserva Biol\u00f3gica de Po\u00e7o das Antas in the state of Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n

Mico-Le\u00e3o-Dourado is Portuguese and means \u2013 as you probably guess \u2013 golden lion tamarin.<\/p>\n
